Maternity care in the UAE: packages, scans, tests and how to compare

Maternity is a sequence, not a single test: planning a pregnancy, antenatal visits, scans and screening tests, then the delivery itself. Hospitals sell these as separate packages with different exclusions. This guide explains each stage, what a package usually covers and what to confirm before choosing a hospital.

The stages of maternity care

A preconception checkup looks at general health, blood counts, immunity, infections and existing conditions before pregnancy. Antenatal care is the series of visits, blood tests and scans through the pregnancy. Pregnancy ultrasounds are done at set stages to date the pregnancy, check development and look for problems. NIPT is a blood test that screens for certain chromosomal conditions; it is a screening test, not a diagnosis. Delivery packages cover the birth itself, as a normal delivery or a caesarean section.

Compare the same stage at each hospital. An antenatal package from one hospital and a delivery package from another can be combined, but most families prefer continuity with one team.

How to compare maternity package prices

The cards above show a starting price within each stage. A delivery price usually covers a set number of nights, the delivery team, a standard room and routine newborn checks. It usually excludes complications, extra nights, newborn intensive care, some anaesthesia options, a private room upgrade and the paediatrician’s separate fees. Open the stage to compare current offers on the same basis.

Ask what happens to the price if a planned normal delivery becomes a caesarean, if labour is induced, or if the baby needs extra care. Confirm the final amount and the exclusions in writing before booking.

Normal delivery and C-section packages

A normal delivery package and a caesarean package at the same hospital differ in the length of stay, the operating theatre and anaesthesia, and the recovery care. The medical decision about how you deliver is made with your obstetrician on clinical grounds, not by the package you bought. Most hospitals publish both prices so you can see the difference in advance.

Check whether an epidural, an assisted delivery, a longer stay, blood products and the newborn’s stay are inside or outside the published price for each option.

  • Nights included and the cost of each extra night.
  • Room type, and whether a partner can stay.
  • Epidural and other anaesthesia options.
  • Newborn checks, vaccinations and paediatrician fees.
  • Neonatal intensive care rates if needed.

Insurance and maternity cover in the UAE

Maternity benefits, waiting periods, co-pays and hospital networks vary by policy and by emirate. Some plans cover antenatal visits and delivery up to a limit; others exclude maternity or apply a waiting period from the policy start. The published package price is a self-pay price and is not what an insured member will pay.

Confirm your cover, the network hospitals and any pre-approval requirements with your insurer before choosing a hospital, and ask the hospital for a written estimate of what your policy leaves you to pay.

How Medifinder compares these offers

Medifinder keeps clinically different services on separate comparison pages. We collect prices and inclusions from provider-owned published pages, show details only when the source supports them and avoid assuming that an expensive package is more complete. Starting prices and provider counts are generated from the currently represented offers rather than written into this guide.

Facility licence information is a directory trust signal, not a guarantee of a particular clinical outcome. Prices are indicative and can change. Review the provider’s current page and confirm the final price, inclusions, preparation and result timing before booking.

Frequently asked questions about maternity care in the UAE

How much does it cost to give birth in the UAE?

Delivery package prices vary by hospital, room type, nights included and whether it is a normal delivery or a caesarean. Open the delivery pages to see current starting prices from published hospital offers, then read the exclusions.

What does a maternity package usually exclude?

Commonly complications, extra nights, newborn intensive care, some anaesthesia options, private room upgrades and separate paediatrician fees. Each hospital differs, so confirm the list in writing.

Is NIPT a diagnostic test?

No. NIPT screens for certain chromosomal conditions from a blood sample and gives a probability, not a diagnosis. A high-risk result is followed by diagnostic testing that your obstetrician will discuss.

Does UAE health insurance cover pregnancy?

It depends on the policy and emirate. Some plans cover antenatal visits and delivery up to a limit, some exclude maternity, and many apply waiting periods. Confirm with your insurer before choosing a hospital.

Can I choose between a normal delivery and a C-section?

The method of delivery is a clinical decision made with your obstetrician. Hospitals publish both package prices so you can see the difference, but the package you book does not decide how you deliver.

Can Medifinder recommend a hospital or a test?

No. Medifinder compares published hospital prices and package contents; it does not give clinical advice. Discuss tests, scans and the place of delivery with a licensed obstetrician.
