What nipt prenatal test is

NIPT analyses small fragments of placental DNA circulating in the pregnant person’s blood to estimate the chance of selected chromosome conditions. It can be highly accurate for common trisomies, but a high-risk result needs diagnostic confirmation and a low-risk result cannot confirm an unaffected pregnancy.

Published prices in the UAE

A limited number of UAE providers publish prices on their own websites. Where there are not enough comparable published prices, this page shows no range rather than a misleading one. Ask the provider for a written price setting out what it includes and excludes.

Why prices differ

Panel breadth, twin eligibility, laboratory location, redraw policy, reporting speed and counselling move the price. Marketing names can hide different condition lists, so compare the actual chromosome scope.

What to compare in each offer

Check the named conditions, gestational-age requirement, singleton or twin eligibility, laboratory identity, redraw policy for low fetal fraction, reporting time and access to pre- or post-test counselling.

Insurance and coverage

Coverage varies by plan, clinical indication, maternal risk and approval route. Some policies cover prenatal investigations within maternity benefits but may exclude elective expanded panels. Confirm the exact panel, laboratory and any referral or prior approval before the blood draw.

What to expect

A blood sample is taken after the provider confirms gestational age and eligibility. Results are reported as higher or lower chance, not a definitive diagnosis. The ordering clinician should explain high-risk, low-risk or inconclusive outcomes.

Suitability and limitations

The blood draw does not enter the uterus, so it does not carry the procedure-related pregnancy risk of amniocentesis. Its limitation is informational: placental DNA may not match the fetus, a result can be inconclusive and screening cannot replace diagnostic testing.

Choosing a provider

Choose by clinical fit and transparent panel scope. Confirm the ordering clinician, accredited laboratory, redraw and counselling pathways and what diagnostic referral is available after a high-risk result.

Frequently asked questions

Is NIPT diagnostic?

No. High-risk results need confirmation with diagnostic testing.

When can NIPT be done?

Eligibility depends on gestational age and provider criteria.

Can it be used for twins?

Some panels can; confirm twin eligibility explicitly.

What is low fetal fraction?

It means insufficient placental DNA was measured and a redraw or other assessment may be needed.

Can a low-risk result rule out every condition?

No. It reduces estimated risk only for the screened conditions.

Does insurance cover NIPT?

Coverage is plan- and indication-specific; confirm the exact panel first.
