How to use your insurance for a video consult
There are two routes: direct billing (easiest) or paying upfront and claiming back.
The provider bills your insurer on your behalf. You only pay your copay — if any.
- 1
Confirm your provider and insurer appear together in the accepted list above.
- 2
At booking, enter your insurance card number and TPA name (e.g. Nextcare, NAS, Mednet). A photo of your card front & back speeds this up.
- 3
Join your video call. The doctor may ask for your Emirates ID number to verify eligibility.
- 4
After the call, the provider submits the claim. You pay only your copay on-screen or via the app.
- 5
Prescriptions and lab requests are issued digitally and filed with your claim automatically.
Pay the full fee upfront, then submit a claim to your insurer for reimbursement.
- 1
Book and attend your consultation. Pay the full fee via card or the app.
- 2
Request a detailed tax invoice, consultation summary, and any prescriptions or lab orders. These are your claim documents.
- 3
Log in to your TPA's portal (e.g. myNextcare, Daman app, NAS portal) and submit a reimbursement claim. Attach all documents.
- 4
Submit within your policy window — usually 30 to 90 days from the consultation date. Check your policy booklet.
- 5
Once approved, reimbursement is paid to your registered bank account — typically within 7–14 working days.
Is video consultation covered by my insurance?
Usually yes. Here is what you need to know, by insurer and emirate.
DHA Circular 16/2023 requires all licensed TPAs to accept teleconsultation claims up to AED 1,000 without pre-approval.
Nextcare requires pre-approval for all teleconsultation claims and limits coverage to 1 session per week per specialty. Follow-up within 7 days is free.
Daman Thiqa and Enhanced plan members can access the Abu Dhabi Telemedicine Centre (ADTC) with zero copay, available 24/7 within 30 minutes.
Abu Dhabi telemedicine is governed by DOH rules (separate from DHA). Coverage and copay terms differ by insurer and plan. Confirm with your TPA before booking.
Information above is for guidance only. Always confirm coverage and copay terms with your insurer or provider before booking.
